Default Torsion Bar Woes of the Measuring Kind

so i bought some 26mm torsion bars awhile back and have been putting off installing them but then today i measured them and they are actually 19mm diameter. just so i know i'm not crazy, it is simply a matter of measuring the center bar with a caliper, right?

i just ask because both bars are marked as "26mm" on the one end and it does not appear to be some random stamp put on by someone trying to make some money.

so i don't know why they would be marked as such but the calipers don't lie. meanwhile, humans do!

hummmm.........maybe the 19's are american standard milimeters and the 26's are metric milimeters.....yeah that must be it!!(jk)

I believe the turbo S came with 29mm, or at least beefier ones

The stamping could be lot or batch #... It might not refer to the size. (I was not aware that torsion bars were stamped with their size.)

Extremely doubtful that they would be 19mm bars - never heard of any ever made that small.

Stock is 23.5, Turbo S/M030 are 25.5, S2 are 24. The aftermarket ones start around 26mm and go up to 31mm.

Wait, weren't the old 911 torsion bars in those smaller sizes?

There are a lot of 911 sizes, but I have never heard they are compatible with the 944 rear end (?).

Not that commonly done as there is little reason to do it, and the turning marks and machined finish are painfully obvious.

No, I certainly wouldn't think they'd be compatible... but the shipper might have gotten several sets mixed up.

whats the length of the 944 TB?

and they are stamped "26mm" so i can't imagine that it would refer to anything else. don't appear to be machined as the have black paint chipping off. they also have a splotch of yellow spray paint similar to OEM springs.

they are marked on one end with "26mm J5" and then underneath they have either "< R" or "L >"

splined ends measure 33mm on one end and 36mm on the other--what the hell are these?
