Red face What Performance Chip is this?

I may have to change my signature.

I've had my 89 Turbo for 9 years now and have made a point of keeping it completely stock. I'm not a track guy and I figure when I eventually get tired of the car (maybe never) it will be an easier sell as a "never been played around with car".

Regardless, I pulled my KLR unit out tonight (there's another thread on the reason why) and when I went to pry up the tabs on the unit what do I see but tell-tale scratch marks where someone has obviously had the unit apart before I bought the car.

Shocked and appalled!

Being curious I had a look at the chip and I suspect it is not from the factory, but not being into modifications I might be wrong.

The chip has a silver label with what looks like a magic marker stripe on it in blue and the part number on the chip is 2227355531.

Any ideas on what brand of chip this is?

My "cunning" stock strategy may be at risk.

Stock part number for the KLR chip on further review...

Does your DME also have a suspect chip?

I haven't had the DME apart.

The only reason I had the KLR apart is because I'm trying to figure out why my boost gauge is stuck at 1.

There's another thread on that saga.

If that's the OEM chip I wonder why the KLR has been previously opened? I've had the car for 9 years and I've always assumed it was stock. Somebody else having opened the box made me suspect that changing the chip was the motivation.

Could some one else have been looking for aftermarket chips?

Thats why I popped open the klr on my parts car.

John:

Thanks for the info. If it had been a performance chip I would have left it in place. I have no complaints about the cars performance as it stands. My "cunning plan" remains in force.

Doug:

Seems odd to pull the KLR apart and do nothing. The only explanation might be that the original owner had a chip in it. I bought the car from a collector who was the 2nd owner. He may have known about the chip and removed it thinking it might not be considered as all original ???

Best I can come up with.

Thanks guys.
