Just the guy I was expecting to post.

No, the counts were with in the gear run to about redline or so. But like I said even in some runs by 15-16psi and 4k (4th gear) I was already getting some counts.

I even had 1-2 counts in 1st gear....?????

So this begs the question, how accurate is the knock detection of 15? Is there a degree of knock?

I also learned that I should have gotten a re-settable counter. LOL. But it serves the purpose fine even with out being able to reset. I just gotta do some math.

You can make your counter re-settable... JoKa had a thread about it.
Yep, too much timing for your boost/fuel/airflow in the higher gears.
The 1st gear knock could be engine noise - but for the most part I rarely get knock that I feel is related to engine noise.

Sounds like someone needs to get me a new chip.

You know, now that I think about it, my EGT's have always been in check though. I data log them and have full time egt gauge mounted.

At full tilt I see about 1,500-1,550.

EGT is really too slow on street pull to see the timing being pulled...

2. In previous threads, people say that Pin 15 tells the DME when knock is detected. In the factory schematics, however, Pin 15 seems to be connected to nothing but the 12-pin diagnostic connector, while KLR Pin 24 appears connected to the knock line on the DME Pin 31. Anyone ever look into the signal on KLR Pin 24?
So is there a place in the '86 other than the DME harness to tap into the KLR signal? At the diagnostic connector? I can get to DME #15 but it is such a PITA with the all the wiring i have done and having to remove the miles of electrical tape from the last time just doesn't excite me. I would love to be able to tap into the diagnostic connector. I have never seen this connector. Where do I find it?

Pin 15 only goes to the diagnostic plug, so yes you can pick it up there too...

I don't have my schemtics handy or I would tell you the pin to pick up at the diag plug... and yes making the counter resetable isn't difficult but as I found out on my last one it isn't as easy as the first 5 or so I did... (I fried the crap out of one.. had smoke and everything!)

If you ever want to get together and do a tuning day let me know... I can pull your chip image, load it to the ostrich, we can get the tune down for the car, then re-burn a chip for you to run every day...

I have all my crap here, just need to DL the chip reader SW again (unless I saved it last time I DLed it)... and the ostrich will be coming off my 951 one of these day when I get motivated enough to pull the DME and KLR out...

I am about an hour south of Doug and Aaron (Ramius).. but have been up to Aarons house, and usually have free time on my hands these days... and both Doug and Aaron (and his wife) have been by my house in Stafford... I have had a few wrenching GTGs here... and am sure more are in the future.. perhaps next spring... Lets not leave out Greg, and/or any one else who wants to get in... CPR is usually too busy.. Had dinner with Josh B after he picked up his new bad *** car...

I tuned my car using the Maxtune SW from Russel berry, and my Ostrich.. I also have chips and a reader / burner so yes I can read your chip, burn the immage to the ostrich fine tune the car then reburn chips just for your setup of the tune file for your car!

I just have to re-install some software..

my car is getting a full stand alone that I will tuning from scratch using some notional guess values to start.. oh it will be a handfull as I will have not only the ECU, but the EBC, J&S safeguard all to tune... clean slate to start..should be fun..

The ostrich will eventually end up in my N/A, but I can use it in your car for a quick tune session... I know I will probably be going to Aarons some time soon again, and he was talking about a GTG at his house.. maybe we all meet up there and have a blast of a day.. or I can pencil in a trip to PAX.. havent been out there in a while!

Very cool!

So how far from So Md are you? I have only met with a couple other P car guys down here and only 2 other 951 guys. Not been able to meet Doug yet but we have talked alot on here and pm.

Did we ever get a 100% answer that pin 15 is the proper point for accurate knock counts?
