Chris, Sorry for you loss. This pictures make me think sometimes of how we go to other countries and don't travel the US. I have been in a lot of countries but never travelled in this country. Actually the furshest I have been toward west was PA.

Sorry about your mother, that's sad. I think its great you were able
to take a somber occasion and put a positive spin on it by
building some nice road trip memories for your son, he'll remember that
forever.

Great pictures, of course under difficult circumstances.

If you and your son are up for another road trip, I'm hosting a 944 dyno/BBQ party on the 28th...

Chris,
Sorry for your loss. Wish I had known you were in the area, I live in Los Alamos, 35 miles north of Santa Fe. I would have liked to have met you and your family. Glad you got to take your son for a trip through the mountains. Bet he really liked it.

Sorry for your loss Chris, but a stunning tribute driving threw Aspen/ Colorado. My Uncle whom also recently passed away was from Arvada and I remember feeding those chipmunks on the side of the road when I was a kid. They used to come right up to you and feed out of your hands! Great pictures, I have to take a trip back soon.

Sad to hear of your loss Chris. It's a time that nobody can be prepared for and you just carry it around with you. A number of emotions come out and you seem to be taking it very philosophically. Seeing those wonderful pics shows some perspective in this big world. Big Skies can do that.

Sorry to hear about your Mother passing.

The picture of the melting cornice. It instantly reminded me of peak 8 at Breck'.

Theres has been a couple of listers from Los Alamos over the years. I forget their names right now.

My father still drops in every Monday for a little consulting with the neutrino guys (D. Hywel White if you want to check out his lab info)

Thanks for all the kind comments. It is still kind of weird to deal with. I can only imagine what my father is dealing with – he was sure he was going to go first, he never contemplated this scenario.

BTW – really weird comparisons on the trip – Aspen is really upscale image conscious with loads of bike riders, hikers and athletic people – pretty trendy too. The trail ridge road in Rocky Mt Park was completely different. At the top there is a shop and cafeteria - reminded me of a trip to Wallmart at 12,000 ft. Just weird.
