Can't believe the number of basement bargain cars I've seen lately....

Sign of the economic times or are people just moving on to more modern reliable cars??

I think it is more a sign that the market has bottomed, or rather that more people have bought them, and then realized what it costs to keep em... so they are dumping them off to those of us who knew what we were getting into, and enjoy the challenge...

I look at it as culling the herd... it cannot last forever, and on a long enough timeline our cars with fade off to obscurity, or become collectable... and based on the feedback I have seen, I suspect the second will happen long before the first...

Ok with me...

I don't plan on selling mine and I value it more for what it is then how much it costs!

I remember when you could buy 356s in that price range. Good luck with that now.

This is good.. Because I will show these to my wife if she tells me I need to sell my 951.. I wil say "See honey it is worthless. Since we will get no money from it why sell and deal with that hassle."

I have owned my Turbo S for 13 years and still at the begining...

I don't think the value will ever go up if any. Maybe another 10-15 years it'll be considered a classic or something but until then, it's supply and demand. And the demand for our car is not that great right now. Actually, we like these cars for what they are (money pits- where throwing money at it is required) and appreciate what they can do once enough money is thrown at it...Otherwise, I don't believe we are in it for the reason that these cars will appreciate over time. heck, for the past 15 years of ownership, all I do is throw money at these cars and they keep coming back for more. It's fun though when all the planets aligned on a given day.

It's the economic times, nothing more. Folks are out of work, or down to a single income, or low commissions, etc. Credit is hard to come bye and CC limits are lower. People can't skate bye.
That means they can't afford toys, or have to move them fast.

It has nothing to do with "value", it has to do with "Values". If more folks had solid Values, we wouldn't be in as much economic trouble.

It will bounce back.

The cars listed all look a bit rough, some more than others. I just picked up an 86 951 with 38,800 original miles and I think I paid a fair price for it. The well kept examples will always fetch more money, but unless is a rare as sh$& early Porsche or Ferrari, cars don't hold their value. Case in point, my brother recently picked up an 1988.5 Ferrari Testarossa with 22k on it. Tubi Exhaust, big brembo brake kit and awesome wheels and tires for the low $40's with a somewhat recent major service.

its a cycle

I remember the first 951 I ever saw in person. It was fully sorted, fresh speed yellow repaint with redone all white interior & it was on sale for 5k. in 2002

Honestly, I think it is a West Coast thing due to what appears as a higher concentration of European cars. Most of the 951's around Ohio are more $7-$12k. Likewise, I have seen this same trend with older BMWs where a car will fetch $2k out will be equivalent to $3,500-$4k out here.

As far as 951 pricing, we seem to be at our lows. I am anticipating the 951s will rebound in the future. For instance, look at 914s (which are more, MORE VW than the 951). You cannot touch rust free examples until you spend about $6,000+. All of the "values" ($1,500 - $3,000) usually have rot in all of the usual places, needs paint, and needs interior work.

Personally, I think low resale values are part of what makes the 951 great.

Unlike most other models it's a Porsche that just about anyone can buy and enjoy. Granted with some attention to upkeep, but affordable to buy nonetheless.

Seems like the same kind of prices we've been seeing for the last 1-1.5 years.
