Default valves hit #1 and #4 pistons...what now??

So its just what the title says....cam siezed and 2 valves hit the pistons.
#1 isnt too bad..just a nick...but #4 has a nice gouge in it....just sand paper the piston tops nice and smooth??
Thanks for any help guys....should have the head and solid cam back from LR any day.
Also, what about oil in the block....we checked and seems like nothing...but one of the lifters seized and really messed up its slot(not sure what to call it!!), so it looks like a very small amount of shavings or bits might have went into the block. how would i go about flushing the block...back yard style...not set up very well tool wize at home.
Thanks again for any help
Adam

What do you mean "what about the oil"? Do you mean: "Should I get it analyzed?" or do you mean: "Should I reuse it?"

Sanding the tops of the pistons, while a good idea, will probably add metal filings/dust to the oil and will scratch up your cylinder walls. I'd really only do that if the pistons were out.

Van, what about if he tapes the walls by the piston gap, and after the job is done he cleans the piston witth clean rags and brake cleaner ?

I'd use some grease and sandpaper. The small shavings that have already gone into the block I wouldn't worry about. Clean like minho says, with the drain plug out. Let is sit and air out for a bit (brake cleaner dries fast), fill with cheap oil and run for 2 mins. Change oil and filter and drive. This may be altered by the lindsey cam break-in oil/instructions.

Good points - if you're careful about the metal particles, and do an oil flush, you'll probably be OK.

thanks for the tips!!
as for the oil....i meant, how to flush the block out incase there are metal filings in it....i dont think its a good idea to just add new oil and run it without flushing it first.
i like the idea of using grease and sanding the pistons...grease should catch any metal filings!

after you have buffed the pistons put some heavy oil in and turn it by hand that whipe the oil out with a rag just after the piston pushes the crap to the top..
I think filtering the oil is a good ideal to try get the block cleaned ..
the ol toilet roll filter set up in by pass so run an oil line from the head to it so the engine still gets oil
use a pretty thin oil or put oil flush or diesel in or basically install the other oil filter as the turbo is installed but dont spinn the turbo up

Thats the Shopcat! Famous around here, but its a small pond...

As for particles in your block, they'll prolly make it to the pan, anyway. Hell, these cars ingest turbine wheels and (sometimes) survive.
