Default cylinder head woes

This weekend we were going to swap out new valve springs. We didn't want to remove the head since the gasket was fine, but we had not done a compression test, assuming things were ok.Using compressed air to hold the valves shut on #1 cylinder,we could hear air escaping past the intake valve. We pulled the head and looks like a cowboy intake on #1.The plugs also looked like burnt oil.The picture shows after some white ash carbon has been scraped with a screwdriver.I'm going to have the head checked out and replace the valve and install my new springs and retainers. The springs and retainers came with my JME cam.Any thoughts?Something I'm missing? Thanks Joel

Leaky valve stem seals no big deal. Either way youll be replacing them with the springs and retainers and what not so stock rebuild or more makes sence now.

If you need a rebuilt head, let me know. I'll have mine available for sale soon.

Sucks to get into more than you intended, but at least you discovered it now before putting it all together.

In pics I don't see an obviously damaged valve.

I suspect a valve job/clean/ mill flat and your springs/retainers you'll be good on the head.

MY cam is JME 8SR/S3SR-16,what did you get?
Ya Jeremy,I'm glad I caught it now.Off to the machine shop to see what we find, hope it's just a valve stem seal and not a bent stem.I'm looking to have them do valve job, clean ,mill and put in my goodies then I can get back on track. Thanks Joel

Springs wont coil bind like othees on the market will. I got the s3sr 14 503/475 alittle more aggressive than yours. Cant wait to install it.
