I'm not too concerned, as a third car the 951 sees very little use to be honest, so I'm willing to put up with alot. I can promise you, Edmonton wins the war for worst roads in Alberta!

Makes sense Justin, I think with 225 I will be annoyed with the understeer as I improve my driving, if we can dial that out a bit with 245 it may be worthwhile. You don't seem to share my nervousness about a 245 on an 8 inch rim, seems so extreme to me even though all the tire websites say 8 is within range for a 245 tire.

I was looking at the Sumitomo HTR Z III in 225/40 and 285/30, however that tire is not available in 245/35.

The Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 is available in 245/35 and 285/30, so in those sizes that would probably be my choice, although the reviews aren't as glowing as for the Sumitomo.

In no way am I good enough at the wheel to spend the cash on R compound, I'm definitely looking for an affordable set of extreme summer tires to destroy before I go down the R road.

Thanks again for the tips on Sunday, definitely helped. I'd like to get out for a fun run in your car as a passenger next time...

Yeah, I looked for the Sumitomos in that size too, but it looks like it's the one size that they don't make. I run the Sumitomos on the M3 and they are great for the price. 245 on 8" wheels were what I used to have on my n/a 944 with the 928 sewer lid wheels. Nothing to worry about except the young kids giving you a hard time for not having enough stretch. A 225/285 combo looks fantastic, but it will be a bigger challenge to keep it from plowing.

If I can get my car to hold up for a whole day, then you can take it out for a lap during the fun runs. I got the video downloaded, and I'll edit it down tonight for Youtube. Next time it will be a roll-bar mount because the wind noise is pretty bad on the roof.

I run the Hankooks in 225/40 and 285/30 with 968 M030 sways and had no perceptible understeer at the the track on Thursday. Car was almost perfectly neutral to my surprise. I was actually expecting quite a lot of understeer but was pleasantly surprised.

I'm not sure where you are reading good reviews for the Sumitomos but they are junk imo. Only advantage to them is that they are cheap but they're only around $50 less for a set than the Hankooks. I work at a fairly well known shop down here in Calgary so I see/recommend tons of tires every day and the Hankooks are definitely a good bang for the buck.

I'm not convinced I'll be able to squeeze into your driver's seat! Like we've told you, when you bolted that seat through the floor, you officially married that car...a passenger run would be great to see how you run things, either in my car or yours, although I did join you in the "mechanical issues" category as well on Sunday.

Nice to hear first hand local track experience on the Hankooks, thanks for that! I also have the 968 M030 sways under my car, so there is some similarity there as well. There is a very long thread in the 993 section that sings the praises of the Sumitomo HTR Z III, admittedly there is a big difference in dynamics between a 911 and a 944.

I run a 8.5" F with a 245/35/18 tires and 10" rear with 285/30/18

Just a thought as I dont know what wheels you are buying but getting a 8.5" will deffinitely allow you to run a 245 front (I would definitely choose a 245 over a 225 up front) and also offers greater resale to potential racers

much perfect at 99 per cent of stock diameter.

Dan, rims on the way are 8/52 and 10/65 hollow twists.

I've been watching this thread with interest as I have bought a used set of CCW's from a friend...plan to run 245/35/18 and 285/30/18 Hankooks!

Jumping in here for a bit-o-information myself... I recently bought a set of BBS Sport Classic 18" rims (sight unseen) and was told they were 8's and 10's but I have a very strong notion that they are 7.5" fronts. The offsets are the same 52F, 65R. How does a person know for sure (where to measure from or indicated on the rim itself?) Has anyone ever run the 7.5's on the front of these cars?

They are true BBS wheels as cast on the back of the wheel.

Sometimes (I think) the offset and width are stamped on either side of the valve stem on the outside of the rim...

they are the sizes I run on CCW as well. Nice balance although I have considered 255 front

Hey chrenan,
You are bang a gong on about rim info. The rims are 18" and actually 7.5/et50 and 10/et65...not to thread hijack again but does anyone have any input on tire size for these rims and functionality on an '89 Turbo.

it will help someome in the future when they search the topic.

I love the Sport Classic II, reminds me of a BBS LM but at a better
price.

My rim knowledge is solely based on my research in finding these
rims, before this I was blissfully ignorant on the topic.

Once I get everything fitted I'll take some pictures. Might be a
little while, the rims and new required factory steel valve stems
are on the way. I still need to order tires and find time for an
alignment, so it will probably be after our August PCA autoX.

7.5" and 10" is a big stagger for our cars. Could be offset by choosing a wide tyre for the front and a not so wide for the rear. I run a 275 all round on my stock body '86 (had them rolled I should say) and it's fine for the street and great for the track. For the dry, I would recommend the Nitto NT01 heartily.
