Default valve guide specifications

I have my engine on a stand and will be performing maintenance on the internals. The rod bearings have been replaced, seals, etc.. however my question is related to the valve guides.

What is the proper way to check tolerance levels for valve guide wear? I removed the valve's over the weekend and want to test before taking it to the machine shop.

TIA

you move a valve side to side when its at full lift with a dail indicator on it you should see less than .3mm or very little ... most engines will need a set of exhuast guides well before rod bearings ..
and decent machine shop should be happy to explian it on there front bench..
Alos measure the valve stems with preferably a micrometer.. there should be no more than >.001" .04mm wear on the stem ... the original stem size can be measured up near the grooves ..
the " Kline" after market guide inserts they use and the head shop apparently last longer then orginal giudes ...
