Default 1989 Turbo Torque Tube - Any Value?

My son had the torque tube replaced in his 1989 Turbo a few years ago and the old tube has been in my garage ever since. Obviously, the bearings were making noise or he wouldn't have had it replaced with a rebuilt. What I want to know is does this tube have any value or should I just trash it? It's taking up space I could use to store other worthless stuff

Thanks for any info.

Might be able to find someone looking for one as a core for rebuild. Still i doubt you would get much more than $50 for it knowing it needs a rebuild. Just FYI, cost to ship though FedEx Ground is about $100.

If the shaft is good, it is worth something. If it is damaged, pitch it.

I had a couple of spares from a rebuild. They are worth at least $100 to some people.

They can be rebuilt with new bearings, but there are no aftermarket bearing carriers. So the only way to get new bearing carriers if you mess one up is to get them from another tube. I went through 3 to get enough good parts for my rebuild.

Also, since there is now an aftermarket bearing/carrier combo available from Constantine, some people want an extra to ship off to him for rebuilding while still having theirs in their car.

Someone will want it.

Tom, is the aluminum bellhousing on the back side still attached? I have a friend with a badly cracked bellhousing somehow, and he needs a replacement.

PM me if possible... thanks!

Hi Tom,

As already mentioned, if the drive shaft ends are in great shape don't throw it away just yet. Good ones are getting harder to find as time goes on.

We are rebuilding a TT for a customer that had one shipped to us from a dismantler and the drive shaft transmission end was really crusty with rust to the point where we will not install it in our rebuilt TT for him. He is working on getting us a new drive shaft from the same dismantler and we have one in stock as back up.

If Elliott doesn't want it for his friend I would put it up for sale in these forums for a bit and see what happens.

Cheers,

I've got 4 or 5 of these in the Atlanta area if anyone local needs one. Asking $50 each.
