Default Reference sensors

What type of sensors are used on the 944? Are they hall effect?

They are Hall Effect proximity sensors. Very much like ABS wheel speed sensors. They are mounted a set distance from the flywheel. When a flywheel tooth passes by (for the speed sensor) a tiny signal is generated. The DME reads this and calculates engine speed. The reference sensor reads a stud that screws into the flywheel. When this passes by, the DME reads that as TDC.

Not Hall effect - they are magnetic (reluctor) sensors.
