SMT6 and Win7
Anyone used the Windows software for the SMT6 and Windows 7? Got my computer to recognize the Serial->USB converter and the ports are set to the correct ones, but I still get a "NO COMM'S" error in the SMT6 software.

have you opened the SMT6 application as administrator, we had some issues with vista and this seemed to help.
have you installed the drivers for the USB adapter.

Yeah, I ran it as an admin...that fixed the "error 75" problem I had when first starting. Drivers are also working for the converter and it identifies it as COM4. And I selected COM4 in the software and it still gives me a "NO COMM'S" error and wont' go online.

i know this sounds stupid, but try each com port in the smt6, then select "status" offline, then try "status" online. XP seems to work fine but vista doesnt seem to like it. are the lights in the USB adapter lit up when its connected?

Tried all the COM ports and running in XP SP3 compatibility mode and still no go.
Anyone know what kind of current the SMT6 pulls?...I recall reading somewhere that some people had problems if it didn't have enough "juice". I'm currently bench testing with it connected to a 400mA 12V DC supply...perhaps that's not enough and that might be the reason? Or it might be my usb->serial converter...I'll try and see if I can borrow another one.

Can you open the program ? If so thats not the problem . Windows will give you a different com from time to time for example com 11. Right you say thats a number i cant choose in the smt software. To change it to something you want you have to go to controllpanel-hardware and sound-device manager and change port options on the com port adapter to a free com adress "selectable" it may not be exactly here but cant give you more details as i am offshore and far away from my smt unit

I have not tried the SMT software on Win 7. I know it works on Vista.
Did the same setup (same USB-to-COM converter) work on Vista or XP? I have had terrible luck with off the shelf USB-to-COM converters. The ones that work have internal buffering.
When running in Vista (not sure about Win 7) you need to run the software as "admin" and In XP compatibility mode.
