Default 5 days and it left me stranded

Picked up the 951 on Sunday and last night the DME relay went out. Have to get one locally to get going again and the only place that has one charged me $80. Oh well, have to get it working somehow. I'll be ordering a few more to have just in case from now on.

DME relay? Never a bad idea to cary a spare, and there is a work around on Clarks Garage..

Yep, sorry meant relay. Just fixed my post. I'm going to check out clarks today and see what the workaround is.

2 wires, BUT will leave the DME ON without the key in the ignition...so it is ONLY a temporary fix...

BUT it will get you home if the DME relay fails again... I cary a spare in each of my 944s for piece of mind..

+1 on the spare relay.

Other than a few issues 944's are pretty reliable.

Oh, I'm not mad. A 23 year old German car is bound to have quirks. Now getting the wife to understand...

HAHAHAHAH, AND YOU JUST STARTED THIS GAME....

now, try to get the wife to understand why you NEED to spend twice what you paid for the car because of an oil leak.... then get back to me...

These are some of the best cars, most fun to drive, great community, and based on the reactions I have gotten from drivers of MUCH nicer cars, well liked and respected...

BUT

They demand a monetary sacrifice on a periodic basis, or the boost demon will crawl out and start making bad things happen in your life....

People love these cars. Yesterday I took mine to the College Park Tuning meet and everyone loved it. People driving new M3's and other cars couldn't leave it alone.

Definatly a moral boost.

My favorite is either having the owner of a 2009 GT3 tell me he spent WAY too much for his car while looking at mine last year at the GTG, or having steve ask me how I like the LS swap... and then seeing the reaction when I told him that was the OTHER 951, mine is a 2.5L 4....

Your DME relay issues sounds just like mine. I had only had the car about a week when it went out, and I used the paperclip trick on clarks garage to get it home.

Yeah i wish I knew about the paperclip last night. Called Dave at SmithMotorworks (bought it from him) and he knew exactly what the problem was but he only knew the jumper method and I didn't have anything to make one. I've always had cars that needed "special" attention, this one isn't my first rodeo. My neighbors don't understand it, my wife doesn't either, but every time I crank it up (when it cranks, lol) I get the biggest smile on my face.

Hah, this thread broke down into another "why I own my 951" discussion. There's no rational reason. We just like them.

You could install a switch in the driver's compartment. It would be all racy then.

I know they are cheaper other places, however I needed one now. It's stuck in a parking garage not at home. And I didn't know about the jumpering at the time, but good news I got it, it was $40, and it worked. However...it allowed me to see I have a leaking injector so in a way its a good thing as I might have set the car on fire!
