My car howls at me--what is it?

I always got mine at pelicanparts.com (big supplier, reliable), but there are several places. The rollers should offer a slight, uniform amount of resistance. If they spin freely or have lateral play they are time bombs.
I know you don't want to go through more work and spend more money than you have to; I've been there many times, so excuse me if I ask anything too obvious.
Do your records indicate the rollers were replaced along with the belts, or is it ambiguous? A spill or slow coolant or oil leak could be destroying a roller or bearings in some other spinning deal despite this, but it's a place to start.
You should be able to replicate this sound it's making while the car is on jack stands. Have you cycled through all combinations of accessories while revving the engine? What is the condition of the PS and alternator belts? Did you pull the belts and check the alternator and p/s pump pulleys? You have to pull them off to remove the covers anyways. I've never read of harmonic balancer failure on these cars (I've never even had it off), but on two of my Saabs this part made some strange noises as it died.
I'd get those covers off and give it a listen. Just make sure to do it methodically, checking the obvious stuff like accessories first.

Yeah man it's a bit of work but I'am sure it's the rollers. My rollers let go at some point and I remember when I pulled the covers the balance shaft belt was just laying there. It did not take out the cam belt ,got luck there
and when I did the job again I took it to get the belts readjusted and the tech said the balance shaft belt was 180 degrees out! So that goes to Swagger's point!
The ps is a low groan but if that's it, topping it off should make it go away for a bit.
I'd just plan on replacing the rollers anyway better safe than sorry!

Damn boys I was looking for good news. I've checked/cycled the accessories, but I haven't checked the p/s pump pulley--that's first. After that, guess I'm getting new rollers. Records indicate everything changed at 72k. No leaks, just bad luck I guess. Loose/stretched belt a possibility?

drowning...ghostly...lupine...all the makings of a nightmare.
Sorry, but I have no new guesses that haven't already been presented.
Let us know what you find.
