Are 968/951 Dash Clusters Interchangeable
Just wondering if I can unplug my 951 dash cluster and plug in one from my 968.
I have a 968 Gearbox in the 951, I know I lose the boost guage, that is not a problem, just curious if there are other differences.

I don’t know the ‘direct’ answer…but every time I assume that the electrical systems are similar between a 944 and a 968 I learn a new lesson…

I know of a few people using the 968 cluster in the 951.
Since you have the 6-spd transaxle, you will need to get the speed signal from the ABS unit, if you have ABS.

The 968 cluster installed with no issues on my 86 951.
Observations:
-All lights function properly
-All engine parameter gauges function properly
-Speedometer is more accurate at speeds below 25mph
-Speedometer reads a little low at highway speeds
Before the swap, I recorded the engine RPM at different speed with my GPS. I haven’t had the time to go out and take new readings with the 968 cluster to compare.
Rear tires are Hankook Ventus RS2 245/45/16

No real advantage for most.
If you're using a stand alone EMS, the factory boost gauge becomes inoperable.
They're the newest cluster available, so overall condition should be better on average.
And they're just another option, if a 944 cluster is not available.
For me, it was the boost gauge problem due to running an EMS and upgrading to a 180mph cluster.

Thanks guys, I thought it should work, but as Chris said, you never know.
I have already changed the abs unit and sorted the speedo issue, but I have a custom dash for my 968 project that has some extra features I can use at the track, and my 968 won't be running for some time, I would like to get a bit of use out of it.I will have little bit of wiring to do but I want to retain all the stock warning lights.

Adam, I asked something similar a while ago... Don't remember the answer, if it was a basic voltage or PWM driven gauge - have to check my notes.

It is a voltage driven gauge, we found it was not that straightforward to run it off the motec, required a frequency to voltage converter.

Interesting read after a search to find an answer about the 951 Instrument Cluster in the 968.
Based on the results in this thread, the units may be interchangeable - which if swapping over the 951 engine harness with the KLR signal from pin 5 of the DME should produce the necessary signal to drive the boost gauge.
Incorporating the boost gauge mod recently posted by Tom would, in theory, make a useful boost gauge for the 968 turbo mod.
