Default NEW DATE: 3/21/10 MD/DC/N.VA "Meet & Drive" 10:30am Rockville Starbucks

An invite from the 993 forum:

Some folks had mentioned that waiting till Spring was too long to wait for a Meet and Drive so for those of you willing to take your cars out of their garage's comfort zone for a low impact Meet and Drive, this one's for you. The Meet time will be shortened a bit due to the cold, so we can meet from 10:30-11:40 am. If you like, join us for lunch a few miles away in upper Rockville at the Hard Times Cafe.

http://www.hardtimes.com/menuandrecipes/menu.aspx

Instead of a rip, roaring drive, we'll instead take a gentle blast straight up Rt 270 to the restaurant. That way if there's any ice, snow or unforeseen cold weather conditions, we won't be affected by it but we'll still have the camaraderie of meeting, chatting, driving, making new friends, checking out each other's cars, taking pics, and eating some food together. As usual, come for just the Meet, or the Meet and Drive or all 3, Meet, Drive & Lunch. Whatever works for your Sunday schedule.

Unplug that trickle charger, don't worry if your car gets a little dirty from melting snow on the roads, break out of the mold of not driving your car in the winter and come on out and join us! Life's too short to always wait for Spring before you take out your Porsches again. You can certainly clean that puppy when you get back home. It's probably dusty anyway if you haven't driven it for most of the winter. It could use a good washing. Or, maybe you're like me and you simply drive it year round anyway so coming out on a winter's Sunday isn't any big deal.

Meeting spot: Rockville, MD. Starbucks, 11802 Rockville Pike #A Mid Pike Plaza
Time: Sunday, March 21, 10:30pm-11:40pm
Lunch: 12pm Hard Times Cafe 1117 Nelson St, Rockville, MD. 20850

So - who's in? Please let me know if you're coming for the lunch so I can get an approximate amount for the reservation. I reserved that little side room for us again.

Regards,
Steve R

Sounds interesting.

I too drive mine as much as possible even in winter. Except this year, with a foot of snow on three occasions it was kind of tough to get it out. lol

If we do, it will be wife and I and would make a weekend of it and stay in DC/Rockville/Gaithersburg.

You have hotel suggestions and/or things to see and do in the rockville area?

You could stay at the Marriott Hotel on Marinelli Rd i Rockville (only 2 years old) and be at the GTG in less than 5 minutes! Then you could take Metro into DC and see tons of Museums for free. Don't miss the new Newseum if you haven't been. You could spend 1/2 the day there alone. That's about $19 to get in. If you have AAA it's a few bucks less.

Yea, we go to the city often but was just curious to know if it would be worth while staying in and around Rockville/Gaithersburg, which Steve answered that.

Doug, are you showing up in the 951?

Not likely as I need to do oil cooler seals to *hopefully* solve my water/oil problem.

Don't think I'll be able to make it. Working on getting the house ready to put on the market and have way too much non-car stuff to do.

I'm hoping for good weather for you guys and gals.

This has been cancelled for this Sunday the 14th... major rains coming into town. I was going to reschedule for next Sunday but it's supposed to be raining then too!

Stay tuned...

Guess we're on for Sunday the 21st after all!

Sunday: More sun than clouds. Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 50s.

See you guys then,
Steve R

Just a heads up. I'm a teacher at a local private high school and my seniors are running a car wash about a mile away from the meeting spot. If you want a quick wash prior to the meet, show up. There are a few kids there who would actually **** their pants to see some of your cars. Address:

KosherMart parking lot.
4860 Boiling Brook Parkway,
Rockville Maryland 20842

BTW, they are running this as a pre-passover car wash, so if you want a chometz free car, they vacuum too.
