which car is faster to 100mph, 968 6 speed coupe or early years of the 951? The 968 is rated for more HP. It seems to me they would be very close.

hp sells cars....torque wins races!
That being said - its pretty close, but the early 951 will have a weight advantage.

968's are great there has been almost 4 thousand threads posted in the rennlist 968 forums
click back and have a look how many threads have been posted in this forum ...i think R32 GTR's possibly AE 82s or starions are the only thing that may come close to the same CULT CAR STATUS

Remember the ‘tool’ vs ? drag race…I think tool had a 200hp advantage and lost. Yeah, lots of other reasons but the most mentioned thing before the race was HP…and it didn’t matter.
Actually the highest rear wheel torque (at the same wheel speed) is what wins races….
Think about the endurance racing diesels…not much HP there….

But there you are, torque curve If you have 800 nm at 1000 rpm and then 50 nm at 2000-7000 rpm you have a slow car. So it's actually the power curve that is the important..
Because just as you say, rear wheel torque matters and you won't have much wheel speed when you have to transform low rpm torque to wheel speed.
I'm just surprised you of all people wrote that old american saying since it is misleading. Torque by itself never gets you anywhere, so it would be better to say that "most power under the curve" wins the race.

So take it for what its worth – like the old Detroit “win on Sunday, sell on Monday’….not accurate, but it gets the idea sold!
BTW – as you noticed – if you toss that quote out there it always separates the folks that know from the folks that don’t!
