Default Clutch shopping

OK, so I need a new clutch. Which one?

Option 1: Sachs spring center kit (OEM upgrade to rubber centered disk)
Option 2: Vertex "Power Friction" kit (OEM disk with raybestos lining material)
Option 3: South Bend Clutch Stage 3 ("Feramic" lining)

Not sure about the shipping yet, but the price differences between the cheapest I'm looking at (Vertex) and the dearest (South Bend Stage 3) is not really that great.

I'm driving mostly street, occasional track. Which would you suggest?

The reason I'm looking closely at the South Bend is because it is supposedly genuinely track worthy but still seems to be quite civilised for street applicatons. Yes?

Any comments appreciated (including options I've not yet considered).

BTW, this is for an S2, not a 951, so fewer options available.

FWIW my replacement was the Sachs Spring centred OEM type part no. 94411601102. Works fine on the track and street.

Not an option for an S2, alas.

I have the Vertex 'power friction" disk that now has about 4000 miles on it. I had the stock flywheel resurfaced but re-used the stock pressure plate. I have had no problems with this set up. At first I got some chatter on take off but now it is smooth. I believe Vertex states that Ferado does the friction material and it has 29% more material than the OEM disc. I am under 300 rwhp and have tracked the car a few times with no problems.

Thanks for the feedback. BTW, I was wondering about reusing the PP myself -- is there a reason ppl don't do this more often? How much do they wear between disk replacements?

take the money you'd save on a clutch net sprung and get a kep. the clutch net also has a raybestos surface. kep will also build you a 6 puck sprung with copper and ceramic if i'm correct. supposedly keeps it from blowing up. $250 ish. I'm mostly street so i did the former and paid less for clutch net.

Did Option 1 7 years ago in my S2 and counting. You can't go wrong with a sping centered SACHS, IMHO.

Make sure you read up on the different SACHS options for your S2 in www.944s2.com if you haven't already.

I really like the Southbend in my 3L turbo (it is civilized) but not sure there is any real need for it in an S2. I only use it because the OEM parts slip at my power level.
