Default Offer for engine

I hate making a thread like this, but I want to make a fair offer while not sounding like a dick- or maybe just let it pass.

I've been snooping around for a turbo engine and if I can't find a decent example I'll just go ahead with my 5.3 plans, but this one came up on the craigslist:

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/pts/1594852465.html
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=6itt0i&s=6

As you can see it was pretty much hacked out asap. No intercooler or pipes, no harness, no afm, no dme. So of course it requires some hunting.. as well as a new clutch and belt. (Speaking of which, how do people fare with a 930 clutch/stock pp?). The guy said to swing by and make an offer sometime, and not many 951 engines come up around here, and I don't want to spend a whole lot for just a stock turbo motor. tia

so you want one the head won't be coming off ?
while a rough car or wreck with good engine is only worth 3 or 4 k in the US i think 1900 for an engine is a bit much .. in these hard times an offer of around 60% is not offensive
it would be nice to compression test it and turn the motor over by hand ..

Are you looking for a block, or a known runner? This purchase is a crap shoot. You can purchase running motors, or motors that were running from reliable sources for $1500.

Good luck. Offer what you can afford to loose.

I just called a good contact to check on my car. He'll check on his used motors. If he has a good runner, it's $750 for the short block and $1250 for a long block. These will be used, but runners.

Thought this might give you an idea as to what to offer.

For $1950 you can but a whole parts car. Way too much for just an engine of unknown condition.

I wouldn't pay that much, but you can ask to pop the head and read the book.

I have an 87' motor that could use a bit of a refresh that I'll part with for a lot less than what that guy is asking. You're welcome to p.m. me if you want some more info.

$$, $$, $$ getting my A$$ kicked here lately, spent 3 weeks sick in December that I am still trying to recover from... short term is a base rebuild, and 3L later in the year!
