Default HORRIBLE parasitic draw issue 87 951

Hey everyone, I have an 87 951, and I have a HORRIBLE parasitic draw, measuring 12v, so basically huge. I've tried pulling all the fuses and relays to try to narrow down the possibilities, but have had no luck, so whatever the issue is, its on a non-fused/ relayed circuit. Does anyone have any ideas what could be the issue? Any common problem spots here?

Where are you measuring the draw ? direct form the battery neg or pos ?
I'm guessing you mean 12 amps , not 12v as all the supply is 12v around the car !

do you have the manuals, with circuit diagrams ?
if not try ***.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm

If you let the car sit how long before it won't start anymore?

12 amps? Woah, thats huge. If youre checking it correctly (disconnecting the negative lead of the battery and using the multimeter to bridge the contact), I would try disconnecting the alternator or starter. Dont be afraid to check relays either.

I never start tracing a short by pulling fuses, I would disconnect the wires attached to the +battery terminal one by one until the short disappears. That way, you can see what doesnt work or trace the culprit with a wiring diagram.

+ door switches, interior light, cigarette lighter, central locking.you're not pulling 12a but maybe 12ma/milliamps.

good procedure at clarksgarage for hi parasitic drag over 0.065/65ma.

Seriously the only cars I see with this problem are all 87 951's. It may just be a coincadence but damn.

Is that like a cowinkydink when both turn signals blink at once?

Ok, 12 amps is a hell of a draw !

Pull all the relays and fuses, put them back one at a time, relays first, then consult the wiring diagrams (see previous link) to see what could be shorted. There won't be too many choices if you still draw 12 A with relays and fuses pulled, ignition off of course.

BTW: what have you just done that is new/different that may have caused this ?

Don't get me wrong, my spelling ability is dependent on a spell checker.

Honestly, the car has been sitting for a while, but I realized today that the radio wasn't working, so i think its in that circuit, and upon pulling it out, found that whoever installed the headunit did a horrible hack-job of the wiring. I'm gonna fix this and see what I get.

Ok, still working on the radio issue, however, I wanted to ask about the rear hatch. I discovered today that the passenger side latch is broken, and therefore the hatch doesn't stay shut. Could this cause a draw issue?

P.S. Thanks for the link, MikeyOMan!
