Proper method of sealing stock downpipe to test pipe?
Merry Christmas,
Since using a test pipe, I have fought with ways to seal this junction. Without the ring-grove to use a stock sealing arrangement, I have tried cutting my own exhaust gaskets from local Napa sourced gasket material which usually seems to blow out, esp. if doubled up. I even tried no-gasket and that was the worst seal.
What have you all found to be the best solution?
Any off the shelf solutions?

there is also something you could use called permatex i believe. Its an exhaust sealant that my friend uses on exhausts that he installs on cars. helps to make a nice sealed fit with no leaks. When it dries it doesnt dry hard, sort of like a caulking product. But it does the trick

Copper all the way... SFR, Lindsey and others have them on the shelf, or you can make your own. The Napa exhaust gasket material worked for me in a pinch once, and lasted about a year...

I came across the same problem when I installed my test pipe but I made my own copper gasket. Picked up some copper for my local metal shop (about 1mm thick), annealed it by heating till it glowed then letting it cool naturally, I've had this for about a year with no leaks!!

I bought the down pipe to test pipe (or cat.) and tail pipe copper gaskets from Paragon. I have no issues with the quality and the exhaust is leak free. As others have, I also use a sealant.
This is also with removing and reinstalling the exhaust a few times, while reusing the gaskets.
