Yeah, no kidding!
That's great news though.
So it sounds like i need:

'86 hubs
Bearings
Rotors
15mm spacers
Wheel studs (?)

And these wheels will fit 295's. That would be excellent!! (Might as well do it now, before i buy new tires...)

Apparently the 65 offset wheels weren't made in hollowspoke (i asked on the 996 section of the board). Mine are hollow spoke which are about 5 lbs lighter per wheel and i already have them I figure i would want to do wheel bearings at some point anyways, so it isn't a huge stretch.

ah well yeh OK fancy pants lol.. perhaps investigate what the biggest offset is and see if the mounting face can be turned back ..
It will depend on how deep the Nut seats are machined i would expect to be able to increase offset by maybe 5 or 10 mm but not much more .
what about those Technomagnesium cup 2's ?? or are they the hollow spoke ??

I was going to say that the Techno II wheels are magnesium hollow spokes. They come as an option on the 996 TT. You see them also on Cayenne but those 20" are not hollow. In fact I run set of those right now with 245/305 front/rear combo on my 88 TS.

Yeah, way back when i was trying to get some wheels for this car, those were the ones i really wanted! I won a bid for some, but the reserve wasn't met and the seller stopped responding while i was trying to negotiate a price. Sad days

Wanna trade wheels?

In looking for the widest wheels possible while retaining the OEM look, I ended up with these as they have an ideal offset- this was when the 996 TT model just came out so it was hard to find them. I originally wanted the twist II like Keithr726 but the offset was a little off...I still like them btw. I've had Forgelines and Fikse but these gave me the street look and functionality that I am after.

It's too bad you are not in the area, you certainly are welcome to try these wheels out and see how you like the look...

Keithr726 - what suspension are you running now and would you recommend for street use? My 88 is still on stock suspension, lowered and rubs slightly on the driver side under full compression. Nice, clean guard red btw...

I actually ended up picking up some "Techno" wheels off ebay after that, but they were aftermarket. They were NOT hollow spoke, and they were heavy as hell! I threw one of them on the bathroom scale and i think it wound up around 34lbs. I relisted them on ebay and took the $100 hit on them. Great looking wheels, but definitely not worth it unless they're OEM, and the OEM ones are hard to find for a decent price!

Like mudbuddha I also looked for the hollow Turbo II wheels wanting the updated look as Keithr has and xsboost90 once had. Unlike samluke I am not at a more aggressive -2 degrees camber in back to make the et45 wheel work for my late offset car.

Finally after many months watching ebay I scored the hollow OE SportTechno wheels, (don’t believe they’re magnesium), with almost new Pzero tires. The et63 offset with 295s in the rear is about perfect.

Funny mudbuddha my left front with a 5mm spacer rubs too.

This page, 944racing - select Felgengewichte on left, is so helpful for OE wheel fitment and weights.

Van, you just need to replace the hubs on the rear, the rear arms are the same
Don't know do '86 hubs fit to newer rear arms or not, but '86 arms are not the same as newer ones.I should have a picture somwhere where are new & old version togethter and the difference can be seen easily.

'86 hubs can be swapped with later ones no problem, with no additional items, except for bearings and rotors. The 'hat' on later model rotors is deeper and will hit the swing arm.
Wish I had known this years ago when I fitted an '88 rear to mine - purchased a whole back end and only used the hubs.

Mike- that's one sick looking engine bay man. How is your 3.1L coming along?

Jason- Mine rubs only when I went to 245mm vs the stock 225/295 on the Techno II. In hindsight, 235/40 would not rub at all and go better with the 305/30 in the rear but I can always switch them out to my other car when they get to be about 70%. Are you sure they are not magnesium? They are sure very light for what they are...
