The Welt short-shift kit fits at the rear of the car and has nothing to do with the shift ****. The Rennline shift **** will fit the stock 944 shift lever.

ok, i thought the short shift would replace the stock shift lever and reduce the throw as weel as lowering the lever...don't know why I thought this then, didn't check the info out...nevertheless, I bought it and it should arrive next week...then I have no problem buying the shift **** then...thanks and excuse my ignorance lol

The Welt short-shift will reduce the throw, its a popular upgrade and works well. As for the gear ****, IMO the original is the best and you can recover it to look like new, there are lots of recovering kits out there from most of the vendors on here. If you want to do something different, you can get an aluminum shift cap for the top. I think with your black interior with the new black gear boot and alu shift cap would look good.

If you're even a tiny bit handy with fabrication, you can mount any aftermarket **** on the stock shift lever. Here's the steps:
- Remove shift boot trim
- Remove stock shift ****
- Remove shift lever from the car
- Take a 2" aluminum blank, in the diameter of the new shift **** and cut it down the center to match the width of the shift lever
- Remove the top rubber stopper on the shift lever, then cut it approximately .5"-1.5", depending on your tastes
- Test fit aluminum blank on to the shift lever, ensuring a good fit
- Tack weld the blank in place, then grind the welds down until they are flush
- Reinstall the shift lever
- Install rubber and leather shift boots
- Install aftermarket shift ****
- Drink beer and celebrate your modification
I did this with my 951, took all of about 2 hours and the difference is extreme. You can use basically any aftermarket shift **** at this point, and you can thread the aluminum blank if you have a threaded ****. And the best part? Besides the shift ****, it will cost you less than $10 to complete.

These guys do excellent work and can fabricate a boot in any color/stitching combination you could imagine.
