I initially used this MAF but it was so big I had problems fitting it under the intercooler hard pipe, are there advantages using a larger MAF?

Larger MAF generally means they can handle more before being maxed.
I wouldn't say there is any advantage of moving to a larger MAF so long as you aren't pegging your current one. In 99% of cases the MAF is going to be larger than any intake piping you've got so it won't be a restriction.

Large MAF's are definitely a pain to fit sometimes, especially in a blow-thru case where you want 6" of same length piping on both sides of the MAF before you step down to the smaller charge piping. I used to run a 70mm MAF in blow-thru on a turbo ford escort and it was a pain to fit the charge piping.

That won't allow you to run a MAF

That is not true.
You most certainly can run a MAF. Will it be 100% correct (without changing the transfer function code), no but it will work.

No, the ostrich is like a real-time changeable chip, that you can tune...

Default tunerpro

I just DL'd tunerpro rt. I geuss thats the software i need for the ostrich. Do i need the booster cable thing they sell too. I feel like thats the way to go instead of constantly pgramming chips for ur mods. Found a website where you can buy a chip burner too so you can make your own.

That MAF is the new one that LR sells... But it is still essentially a piggyback.

I'm pretty sure I explain most everything in that thread (DIY tuning)... If you have a 24pin DME, then you need the socket booster.
