Cool Twisted Input Shaft

In the process of swapping my open trans axle for a LSD unit, I found this:

Any one else ever seen one like this?

Judging by how uniform it is and the paint marks, I'd say it's manufactured like that.

That's not twisted. Those marks are "chatter" marks from the machining process. They mean nothing.

I guess the more I look at that makes more sense. I've see quite a few of these out of the car and never seen that before!
