Most C4 & C2 binaries are the same. I have ROW 964 RS binary file, and it's totally different compared to "plain" 964 binary files. Most likely extra 10hp was taken more or less with this re-written chip.

Converting to a 28pin EPROM is more involved then FRWilks site suggests (at least for the 951 DME
How come? I have converted several 24 pin DME's to 28 pin ones. All you need to add is 4 extra pins to socket or change 24 pin socket to 28 one and add one jumper wire.

Olli, I edited my post. You are correct, FRWilks site instructions work for converting a 24pin to 28pin.

Is this kind of like a standalone tuning solution.

Meaning if I got this setup would this support all the mods I would throw at my car. Like a MAF or MAP stuff like that, maybe a different turbo. Or something small like a MBC, 3 bar FPR, and an exhaust.

This is kind of like a standalone tuning solution. However, unlike a standalone, you don't have to worry about the start-up fuel/timing, response fuel/timing, warm-up, ect.
The DIY will support you tuning for any mods. However there are certain limitations. Such as the AFM transfer function. It only really understands the AFM. You can use the DIY with a MAF, but it will not be a true-MAF solution.

You are correct of the need to be configured to access the 1st set of maps.

*Note for everyone* You cannot have a region or coding plug installed and use this DIY.

First - Thanks Rogue, this is a great thread!

Second - I presume that the above restriction is because the xdf file only has the set of maps that match the above configuration. Is it possible to add the other maps in? I want to use my current chip settings as a baseline by reading the .bin file, but they use the maps selected via the region coding plug.

Best Regards

Graham,
Which plug(s) is/are on your car currently? Most aftermarket chips copy the same data to all three maps.
Do you have an EPROM reader? It is possible to add the other maps, but it might not be necessary...

Hi Rogue,

Currently have the Region Coding plug (it's just a jumper) installed.

I have just ordered a TOP853 but it will not arrive for a couple of weeks - had to get it from China

The chip that is in the car at present uses the 3 maps for different boost levels and uses the plugs to access them.

Best Regards

Interesting. Ok, well I can make you an .xdf that has all three maps. But for simplicity and continuity of the DIY, I won't post it. Also, unless they changed the factory operation, use of the coding plugs can affect O2 sensor feedback... Furthermore, I have not checked to see if a ProMax chip image will work properly with the DIY.

Sent you a PM.

Hi Rogue,

Thanks for that - if you could send me a new .xdf that would be great!

By the way, there is no O2 sensor on the '88 Turbo S - at least not on the UK ones. Don't know about ROW or "standard" 220's/250's - maybe they came in when cats were fitted?

There is also no Impedance Adapter socket in the DME loom.

Best Regards

Anyone tried doing this with a MAF? Or would it be better to a have a MAF chip burned?

Hi Rogue,

I'm trying to get a .bin file ready to burn a new chip and while looking at the files I already have I can see that most of them have some differences in areas that are not defined in the .xdf.

There are about 12 smallish blocks that differ from the Base28pinDME.bin included in the TunerPro bundle and I'd like to understand what they do.

I have summarised the differences in an excel file - do you have a list of what all the standard addresses relate to that I can match these up to?

Best Regards

Graham

Yep - send me an email.
The Base28pinDME.bin is slightly modified from stock... The reason is to help simplify things.
