I've had an e30 M3 (225k miles), a e36 M3 (200k miles) and still have an e46 M3 (140k miles)
the e36 was a 95, aplin weiss, grey, coupe...nice mods, Turner power kit +30 HP, eibachs, later staggered wheels, white reflectors...sorry, no pics, well no digital pics

the e36 was a great car, reminds me of the turbo's handling in some ways, very balanced and neutral, although the engine characteristics are entirely different..

have some of the e46 though

Something's terrible wrong in this car, a M3 with auto trans. Not easy to find such a thing here in Europe .

I know of another member on this board that just added an e36 M3 to the herd....I don't believe his 951 hasn't run in a while though
Haha, I'm just now catching up on rennlist Josh. Yes the M3 has been added to the garage, we won't talk about the 951 at this time. I still don't have any decent pictures at the moment, but here are some bad cell phone pics I took after cleaning it up....

The wood grain will be the first thing to go!

My sister's boyfriend had an E36 M3. It's strange looking at my 951 with fuchs on it still.

I read that in the US you didn't get the proper 280hp (ish) M3 engine - it was some sort of 240hp hybrid M50 unit?

Did you get the 320hp E36 m3 Evo?

No, the only E36 M3's were got were the Sedan and Coupe with the M5x based motors rather than the evolution of the S38.

Some e39 M5 love.

I think I'm going to be moving into an e31 850i 6 speed soon though.

Unfortunately my M3's did not overlap with my 944 variants.

You're correct--S50 variant '95, S52 '96-'99 (no exotic internals, didn't think U.S. customers could take care of sophisticated engines--probably correct for majority of customers), only ~240hp, crappier suspension and no six speed. The U.S. market never got an E36 evo.

On the other hand, whether something is proper or not is subjective so I couldn't tell ya. You Brits...

S50B32 has nothing to do with an S38, the S50B32 is an M50 w/ a better head and double vanos.

The Euro S50 is a direct evolution of the S38, probably why it has similar head castings, parts of the timing system are interchangeable, along with the ignition system of the B38 and a few other little bits.

Why do you think it has an intermediate housing for the cams opposed to having them directly in the head... wait.... what other BMW engine does that... oh yes, the S38.
