Default Any special edition Turbo S's in 88? Barn find.....

This kills me. I looked for a 944 S2 or turbo for about a year and a half. My wife and I relocated here about two years ago. One of her co-workers "used" to drive Porsches all of the time.

So, when I got mine in April of last year, my wife makes some mention of it. Turns out the person who used to drive them still had the last one. Sitting in her brother's garage, as it had been for a few years.

Anyway, so I talked to the person last night, and asked about the car. "Well, it is an 88 Turbo S.........."

Again,

The car is not one of the Silver Rose cars. it was described as a blue-ish silver, with white interior with navy carpet. It is also believed to have something special about it pertaining to Porsche. The car was garage kept and not driven because of this when it was new, only later in its life did it become driven. I would guess that it is one of the Zermatt Silver cars with linen interior. But, was there any kind of odd special edition of these cars, kind of how Porsche did the anniversary cars and the PCA edition cars? I can't find anything online, but am just trying to find out what this car is.

........and there may be a very nice white '88 for sale in the future, too. Don't know, yet.

Haven't seen it, yet. It sounds like it may be a project, though. Doesn't run, was stored in a wet basement garage for a while.

To my knowledge the "Turbo S" was the only special 951 made (outside of the "Cup" cars). Midway thru 1988 they deviated from Silver Rose and offered it in multiple colors, and then made it standeard in 1989. It very well could be an 88 Turbo S in a baltic blue? Google 944 Turbo S and you will find a pie chart of colors made during 1988 for Turbo S cars.

There was one "Ocean blue" and 36 Zermatt Silvers. That's why I'm guessing it is Zermatt Silver, despite the description. But yeah, I could find no other mention of anything special.

To me, Zermatt is very silver... Not much blue to it... Years ago I used to have a Sapphire blue 951, which was definitely silver blue / blue silver....

Please go & take some pictures!

To see if it's a turbo S, look for things like the split rear seat, the rolled inside rear fender lip, and the big brakes, of course.

Blue-ish silver sounds like Glacier Blue.

I wonder if that's the real deal or if it is bs. New paint? I am always leery of new paint... i always like to see a car as is with the original paint job.

Sounds to me like Diamond Blue Metallic (LM5U), which is what my car was originally. But I think the last year for that color was 1987.

Glacier Blue? Is that Glacier Metallic (LY5U)? That color didn't come around until around 1990.
