Default Mercedes SL65 AMG - v12 biturbo - anybody drive one?

Low mile 05 Mercedes SL65 AMG for sale cheap (as far as msrp $180K cars go) locally

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t/specs_page_2

Heavy car @ 4500lbs
V12 bi-turbo 600+hp, 730+ torque
Apparently only automatic trans however

Not sure in this economy I could turn over toys to make it happen, but I am considering.

Anybody ridden/driven one?

I have driven a few clients cars that were brought in for repair. Long story short, it just doesnt feel right to have such a heavy car accelerate that fast.

Luxury is top notch, The newer V12 doesnt have the same problems as the 02/03...try to get a warranty, because when they go down, they go down hard.

I picked one up an '08 S65 for my father from the dealer, pretty sure its the same engine in the SL65. The power is nothing short of amazing. Put your foot the floor and the car just pulls endlessly. One of the smoothest onsets of power due to the bi-turbo setup, you do not feel any turbo lag, any surge of power.. it just flat out goes. You dont even notice how fast you are going because its just a smooth ride, typical Mercedes luxury. Really an amazing car. Sounds awesome also on start up. Has a very distinct starter sound that reminds me of a crotch rocket (very quick rotations), when it catches and fires on a cold start it pops and crackles.. very mean sound.

I love the Mercedes tt V12 engine... I have a Mercedes that was very heavily modified by a local high end tuning shop called Motorweks & they gave me a few cars to drive while my car was there (for over 2 years...). The SL65 is definitely a Jekyll & Hyde car. Kleeman produce a chip that can raise the horsepower & torque to well over 750 each.

I say go for it - but keep some spare change handy for the servicing! Oh, and don't forget the PPI.....!

Forget servicing.. you may have to take out a mortgage to pay for gas to get it to the service department! Sub 15mpg if your lucky!

The computer controlled power and suspension are second to none.. It really is an acceleration that I cannot describe.. You have to be there. No squat, no squeel.. Just pure go.. You realize the whole suspension is changing for each segment of acceleration. nothing short of amazing. you gotta think the tuners and programmers are pure car guys. If I had the change.. THIS would be my ultimate drive to work vehicle. And oh YEAH. You can bet that chip would be in it. (friends dad owned it for a short time. )

I work for MB in the UK and managed to 'borrow' a destricted S65 (belonging to AMG themselves) for the night a few years back now. I remember waking up the following morning and really struggling to lift my back off the bed, such was the strain on my stomach dealing with about 4 hours of violent acceleration and torque. I've driven faster cars and certainly better cars, but as most of you have said, there is just nothing like the feeling of such incredible power in something as heavy as a house!

Not the same of course, but I drove a S600 last weekend on vacation (the resort I was staying in had 5 that you could 'check out' and drive for the day) and was blown away at how fast a vehicle that heavy could move. I believe that's a 7 speed auto and other than the 1st to 2nd shift - it was so smooth you couldn't even tell...even concentrating hard...where the shifts were at times. Put it in manual mode and use the paddles and the acceleration was amazing.

MB definitely makes some nice vehicles. The S600 was too large for my personal taste (I'd take an E63, thank you very much ) but it's a damn nice car.
