Are there holes in my block???

I just picked up a used block, and inside one of the balance shaft resesses there are 3 holes that look like they were ground out manually. Are they suppose to be there?

Can't recall exactly how many there are but yes, the holes (look like rough casting) are for the BS oil drain.

Yup, oil drains. Three per balance shaft pocket.

Yup, oil drains down to the sump. They do look pretty crude.
