I've had this clutch in one of my cars, and trust me it's a track only setup. The chatter was an issue, and when using it on the street it will wear out fairly quickly.

It likes to be holding or not. There is little slip, but when there is, you wil have extreme wear. Once on, it will hold, but it won't last.

I've owned these cars for over 15 years and have some experience.

I'm spending much money getting a reliable 500whp 951 to work as well as the stock car. I'm really doing this or selling the ride.

Regards,

George

I've had a 6 puk like 95ONE describes and I loved it too....at speed or on the track. In town, parking etc it was pretty awful. Really shook the car up, especially in reverse. I'd happily go one of these again if it was a full track car, or something more substantial again.

My best clutch for these cars with under 400WHP was Kennedy and the 930 disc. Slip on this car was the issue, and Clutchmasters has been part of the R&D for this car.

They do have there reputation on the line with their new design for my 951. If it wears out like the last unit, I'll inform this list.

So far, they have been upfront, and have rebuilt everything to spec. We'll see like everything else with this build. Work in progress, and some feeling of guilt on my part. I could have just gone to www.speedfreaks.com and blown a M3 for the same money....or purchased a 993TT and worked it.

Good thing that I still get a hit running offroad. This project has kept me off the asphalt for far too long.

I'm a 951 nut, and I'm paying the coin to get this ride perfect. Just sharing the vendors that are supporting me with little money after creating their goods for this particular car.

George, are you saying you had a KEP2/930 combo slip at 400hp? That would be disappointing to hear. My factory clutch did fine with no slip up to 350rwhp.

I am still thinking of returning to the 6 puck for the track car but that will be a lot lighter too so I think this should be ok. I really loved the almost total lack of transition between shifts. It felt like an F1 flappy paddle by comparison. Bang-Bang-Bang. Especially with short ratio gears. Having said that, I wonder what the clutch de jour is for a GT2 6 speed? Anyone?
Sorry ot Darwin.

Well, it's still a matter of making it happen but we've got the hard part done.
Back to program.

I would also consider something from that outfit Southbend. Sounds like they could put something together which might suit your needs Darwin. I've heard good things about them.

My other tranny is going into the track car. When I said I have the hard part done, that was more in reference to locating and paying for it (gulp$), then having it sent to California Motorsports to be modified to fit into a transaxle setup. It now is sitting in a crate in the US waiting for the next step which will be making up the adaptor plate and trial fitting it.

I will give a good reference for the Southbend Feramic disc. I have the KEP I with the Feramic/Organic disc. Runing it for well over 20,000 miles with lots of track time and I have enough power to get to 121mph in the 1/4, timeslip verified. This setup is not grabby and releases well for quick shifts. According to Southbend this setup is good for over 600lb-ft. The disc was out at 10,000 miles, due to a broken guide sleeve, and the disc and pp looked barely worn. I previously tried a Centerforce with kevlar and Blaszak +30%pp with kevlar disc and both would slip. This setup does not slip except when you want it to. I would send them your disc with the six springs and they will send it back with the Feramic or Feramic/Organic faces. Fit was as stock and pedal pressure with KEP I is slightly stiffer than stock.

Haha, I thought you might be along soon Dan. I hoped you'd pipe up with your positive experience with the Southbend product as I know you are happy with it.

I am using the Spec stage 3+( carbon ceramic/ Kevlar) with aluminum pressure plate. I was told it was by Spec it was good for 700 ft/lbs of torque. It's had multiple hours on the track, great street use can't complain it has handles boost at the 33lbs mark numerous times. It is also not too harsh on the clutch fork.
