Anyone running with a non stepped flywheel?

It is kind of an old trick, but on some cars you can remove the step to increase clamping force. The downfall is that in some cases it won't release the clutch as well.
The car I am rebuilding had a flush flywheel on it. The step had already been removed. I have only driven it one day for about 180 miles of driving. Clutch worked fine, just really noisy from a bad throw out and pilot bearing.
Thoughts?
