Default Axles???

Are the regular 944 and 951 axles the same? I blew a CV joint today, and the edges inside the axle where the ball bearings hit to go forward are all rounded off, so I am not sure I should reuse this axle at all.

86 951 axles are the same as the early cars. They are available as complete axles w/ CV's for about $100 from Kragen, Autozone. Don't ask for 951 axles if it's an 86 they don't sell them even though they are then same. You can also get just the CV's from a VW AWD Transporter, same part number. The good thing about the cheaper axle sets they are Lifetime warranty to the original buyer. If you keep the car for long it's a no-brainer.

how do those axles hold up? I recently upgraded my 86 to the later style axles/CVs and have gotten more life than I ever got out of the old style ones. If these cheapies can hold up, its great. If not getting stuck with a broken CV sucks....
