Question What turbo should I use?

Hi,
My 951 is from '89 with kkk26/8 turbo that needs a rebuild. I had a rebuild made but it did not work out good enough. The main problem is that this turbo that I have does have a huge oil consumption. So my question was what turbo could I buy instead of the kkk26/8 but not a turbo that is too big, because I would like to stay in this power area 300-350 rwhp max. . My mods are: LR 300rwhp pack (3.0bar fpr, 4" exhaust, mbc, chips ), stage II intercooler. What about GT30 turbo?
Any advice in what turbo I might use, and what mods should I do so I don't mess up the engine?(injectors, metalic h/gasket). What would the price be for the turbo and the other mods involved?
Thanks

Quite a few people recommend the K27/6 or 8. I would upgrade to larger injectors just to be on the safe side. You should be fine with a stock or widefire (if you want an upgrade) headgasket.

For the power you are looking for a 57 or 60 trim #8 or #10 stage 3 or 5 kkk hybrid would work. Also add one of the gap-less turbine shaft seals to it so it wont smoke under heavy boost. The kkk hybrids might not be avail anymore as the replica turbine housings are getting rare.
Best bet is to call Vic at Pauertuning.com

The K26 should not consume oil. Make sure it is the turbo before you proceed.
A cheater turbo based on the K26 works nicely. A large turbo requires engine management changes.
Lots of opinions on this forum, some good some very questionable. Be careful how you sort through it, replacing a turbo is not easy and not cheap. I would assume you want to get it done just once.

My current K26 blows oil as well, but I already have a replacement sitting next to me... I'm planning on going bigger this winter...

I'm not sure what turbo you'd want to use. This interests me as well, because I too have a k26 (stock 26/6) and it smokes a bit. My power goals are about the same as yours, but I'm not sure how to upgrade the turbo without making spool problems worse, ya know?

Things I'm most interested in:

-quicker, earlier spool
-better boost holding, up top
-little/no oil consumption

It gets tiring to have a turbo car that acts like it has a larger turbo, but with less power and boost.

Good discussion - can't you work backwards from the HP target ---- ??????

350 whp target requires XXX boost at redline. (Guessing ~18 lbs - depending on exhaust, intake, head, etc ???)
What is the smallest turbo size that will hold XXX boost at redline ? Smaller = quicker spool up.

I don't think a K26/8 will hold that much boost at higher RPM so probably a lindsey "Super 61" or Vitesse "Stage II" would probably fit the bill.
