Default S2 LSD transmission swap impression

My impression of the S2 LSD transmission swap……..WOW!

It took me about 6 hours to swap the transmissions taking my time and looking things over. Hardest part was getting the shift rod to move forward with all the foam in the way. For anybody concerned, acceleration runs were done on an abandoned road with no houses or anything near it. I was the only one out there and thus only a danger to myself. Speeds were kept within the legal range.

The car- Stock (running very well!) with DP wastegate and chipped for 15 psi.

Acceleration- Well, let’s say first and second are through quick…really quick! Turbo lag “feels” reduced and the power delivery “feels” more like a naturally aspirated engine. I’m not sure of times…but initial impressions are that 0-60 is much faster! Maybe an optimistic second faster….maybe.....please?

Turning- I’ll save that trial for a track visit!

Cruising- There is not much of a difference in RPM from the 951 transmission to the S2. Maybe 500-700 RPM higher in 5th at 60mph? The one thing I do notice is that I am always in boost range whatever gear I’m in. Alot more responsive over the old transmission, It’s nice to just stab the gas and go!

Overall, I think if your making big HP the swap would hurt your performance because of the shorter gears. It would probably better if you guys stick to the 951 transmission.
However, for those making less than 375hp...this swap is absolutely the best thing that can be done! It is a huge improvement and you can really...really feel the difference! I am so glad I hung onto that transmission from my S2!

I'm going to try and upload some video soon...but now I must drive!

This is a good post, as I am going to need an LSD trans some time in the future. Thanks! I'd love to see solid numbers sometime if possible!

from other threads it seems that this S2 box or short 968 box are the best for most 2.5's but the 951 gears suit the 3.0

I'm sure, with some shorter gears, the 951 would be better suited for city driving and maybe auto-X
