Best Turbo for the Money

About all those kkk housings. True Story; a buddy and I had two dozen K26's for about 15 years or so. I needed a few for trade when had my K26 rebuilt and moded recently. All gone. One of the maintenance guys was cleaning up a couple of years ago and tossed them for me it seems. Where did they come from? The original Audi 5000 Turbo had them and no "turbo timer" so in hot climates all were recalled for coked bearings. The factory told dealers to dump them. Only picked the best two dozen too. It was a big pile to start with.

I have a new turbo right now. I bought it without really knowing what I wanted. I know that there are better turbos out there and sometime in the future I will be getting another turbo.
Is the bottle neck the housing? What is to be gained if one makes the investment in a new mount to fit a "modern" style turbo. What is a modern turbo?

John is right.Unless the last of the 944 companies want to fork out the cash to have the hotsides cast, there might not be anymore available soon.A big problem for bolt-on turbos. Not as big of a problem for us since we have other alternatives for bolting on other turbos to these cars

Quick answer - my favorite without regard to price - Vitesse Stage 2, but for half the price you can get a 'decent' turbo from Tim or Dave/Mike.

I'll throw a big +1 for the Vitesse Stage II. I love mine. Its a sad day for us if they aren't available going forward.

I have been looking for a decent turbo for my car that would be able to support 300-350hp after a basic rebuild. The big thing that bothers me about different turbos is the installation. What turbos are you able to bolt on and continue to use the watercooling setup? I have replaced my turbo before after an incident with a bolt. If I need to use a different setup because the J-boot probably won't fit? Will I have to buy MAF kit or MAP kit to make it work? Which turbo(s) setups are reliable and drivable daily? These are the questions that I have always had.

My car easily spins the tires all the way through second gear, with 275's, a quaife, @ 15 pounds of boost in 110 degree heat. [/QUOTE]
How does that make you feel?
