Question Head Gasket thickness question?!

I picked up a 951 for a later project. Right now the car has 1 bent exhaust valve keeping it from running.

I would like to throw the engine toghether and use the car until I determine exactly what I want to do with it. (V8, build a 3.0L, etc).

The car has a bunch of performance mods on it and I have paperwork showing that this head has been ported, polished and 0-ringed.

Checked the other valves, they all seat good, cleaned the head up. . I think I can "get a way with" just replacing the valve at the moment. (not my long term solution).

I understand the stock head gasket is 1.1mm thick. Where is that measured at?

I stuck my calipers on this head gasket and it is 1.6mm thick(ish) at the thickest spot. Want to make sure I am ordering the right thickness to put back in this car.

How deep is the reference hole supposed to be? (so I can see what was shaved off this head in the past).

I searched and did not quite get all the answers I need.

Yeah, I'm with Mike - standard head gaskets are (in my experience) just under 1mm (1mm ~ 0.040").

They are thicker before you install them. Compare a used one vs. a new one at the compression ring to see how they squish down when torqued.

Okay, I stuck the calipers on it this morning. The ring is about 1.11mm. The gasket material is about 1.6mm. Sound like it was a stock thickness gasket to you guys?

They only offer it in one thickness, so it's stock thickness.

Great thanks guys.

FWIW I have seen 4-5 places to get the stuff. Been on the Lindsey site a few times looking at everything from heads to other fun stuff. Since they were helpful here, I think I should order from them. Will be buying shortly.

Thanks.

Now, how the hell do I tell if my waterpump is updated etc for ordering this timing belt kit to go with it?
