Default Adjustable Height Motor Mounts

I am getting ready to install some new adjustable height motor mounts. The mounts have the ability to run at stock height, 5mm lower than stock, or 10mm lower than stock. Anyone have any experience with running at a lower than stock height? The option is obviously there for a reason, just wondering what the pros and cons are.

I have these. They allow you to drop the engine for "I guess" a lower roll center and more positive engine location. The spacers are rubber, with two spacers installed you are at stock height with maximum engine damping. One spacer and you are lowered 5mm but still with some engine damping. No spacers and you have a solid mount (zero damping) and a 10mm drop.

Lowering the engine makes the oil pan a bit more...well...available.... to raised manhole covers

I wouldnt lower the engine on a street car, its really no fun at all to change the oil pan

I am at stock height, it's a street car and I didn't want any less noise damping & more vibration into the cabin + as the previous poster noted, chance of oil pan damage. For a track car I would take one spacer out.

FWIW, when I installed LR solid engine mounts, supposedly "stock" height, I was unable to use the KLA strut brace due to engine clearance problems.

Our adjustable height mounts, both the solid and Ultra Mounts were originally designed to lower the engine for someone using our Intake Manifold and trying to get their strut brace over the top. We didn't want the customer who already owned a strut brace to have to remove of modify something. But as it turns out, they also work nice for just lowering the CG.

We typically lower the engine. It even makes getting the bell housing bolts off later, during a clutch job easier.

Whether you have both shims in place, remove one or two, all positions still retain the rubber isolator and the mount is never a solid mount or more a solid mount then with both shims. Only the distance below the isolator changes or the lower half of the mount is thicker or thinner. The damping never changes.

"FWIW, when I installed LR solid engine mounts, supposedly "stock" height, I was unable to use the KLA strut brace due to engine clearance problems. "

The height of our solid mount (no longer offered), solid adjustable, and Ultra Mounts are equal to a brand new stock mount. There must be something else in play there.

(edit / additional comment)
Just compared a OEM and a A/M Stock mount. 3/16" difference in
height. Hard to say what stock height is anymore!

ah-ha, thanks for the clarification, so the rubber stays in place whatever regardless of the number of spacers used. I thought the spacers were made of rubber for some reason but a quick check on my car reveals otherwise. My bad.

Great product btw.

I've had the Lindsey solid mounts (the earlier version which lowers the height 5mm) and have not had any issues in 3 years (except for the extra vibration).

Rubber spacers on a motor mount? Engineering genus...LOL All kidding aside, I had to lower my motor to clear the strut brace. The factory motor mounts could not handle the tq from the motor, and the lower radiator hose would rub on the fan when the motor would move, and my intake would hit the strut brace.

10MM is not that big a deal in terms of the oil pan location. Especially if your car is close to factory ride height. These mounts saved my project from having to go with solid mounts. They are a very good product with stock-like driveability

Default Steering shield

Can anyone confirm whether or not the steering intermediate shaft heat shield can be used with a lowered motor on 951??

Thanks

Default Lindsey Ultra Mounts

To All
We have used the Lindsey Ultra Mounts on numerous 944 Track cars with great success.
We run them with No Shims and have not had any steering or clearance issues.
We prefer the motor as low as possible.
Additionally, we also have been running the Lindsey Utra Transmission Mount on all our cars.
Both Ultra Mounts are used on all our old and new builds

Have you had any problems with the center bolt/stud failing?
