I have just replaced the timing belt and balance belt on my stock '88 951. The only problem was the alternator A/C belt that was tight to get off and almost impossible to replace. Even with the compressor against the engine, there is not enough room to slide the belt on. I installed the Conti belt part number 1 999-192-299-50, 6 PK 1000. The belt I took off was a little thinner and larger than the replacement, which makes me wonder if the car had a non-standard compressor or alternator installed. Any ideas before I go to go NAPA and ask for 1 "yea big" ?

Yes everything looks OK and the guy helping me is a Porsche trained Audi technician. The old one was a 5PK1015 and the new one is a 6PK1000. It looks like the 5PK and 6PK refers to the number of ribs across the belt and the 1000 or 1015 is the length in millimeters, so you are correct that a 6PK1030 or 6PK1035 should work. A Mini Cooper uses a 6PK1035 which is 2cm longer than the one I took off.
Thanks for the input.
