Default Whats a realistic caliper rebuild estimate for all four?

While my car is off the road I have been considering different things to do in the mean time and one of them is rebuilding all of the calipers. I have seen the seals for sale here and there but they seem crazy expensive, so much so that I didn't want to actually add it all up but hopefully I was looking at it wrong. What do you guys think is a fair estimate for parts for all four calipers assuming you don't need anything other then the usual replacement stuff? This is for standard 86' turbo calipers.

Although I could find some of the seals from other suppliers, the only place I could find that had all the seals was the factory rebuilt kit, available at the dealer only. They were stupid expensive for what you get, though I don't remember exactly how much.

Colin- been down this road with the 968, it seems the rebulid kits for the 86-88 951s and the 968s equiped with calipers 951-351-421-03-OEM and 951-352-421-02-OEM for example no longer have a rebuild kits manufactured for them. In the past kits were under $200 for all four, I do not know what would be now. I would be very careful in ordering one from anyone that does not deal in OEM stuff. I do think that some items are shared with other car and can still be bought but not everything.

I guess that is why prices are up- Plan B. your 86 calipers are the same as 86-88 951s and all 968s, want to buy a used set? I have a full 968 suspension for sale.... Just a shameless plug.

good luck! If anyone knows of a dealer or seller of kits PLEASE do share.

Cheers, Mike

Aren't these calipers the same as the 928? if so, paragon has the rebuild kits for those. They seem to have LOTS of seals for all sorts of Brembo calipers--might be able to piecemeal it together. I have been planning this as well, but I'd love for someone else to do the leg work.

Looks like Paragon has the best price I could find in a few minutes of searching...

No Affiliation..Depends on piston size ranges from $48-$59 per piston (4 pistons per caliper) for the Brembo caliper rebuild kit...

Looks like easily $200 per caliper.... But is still better than $1500+ fir big red conversion

That's all I've been able to find. I'm sure you could piece it together off of pelican if you tried hard enough

A couple years ago I rebuilt all my calipers for about $150 or so from Paragon. What happened?

Supply and demand... the supply dried up, so went the good deal...

I just rebuilt the 968 calipers that I put on my trackcar (16 kits; inner seal, dust seal, piston, and grease). Got everything from Sunset for around $375.

Tim, you wouldn't have the part numbers for everything would you?

Colin, i would be careful since the 86 calipers had different piston diameters than the 968 calipers.

Not be to a counter point but the 86-88s are the same factory part numbers, the 88s are the 928 calipers but the rest including the 968s are the same. The 88 is part number 928-351-421-03-OEM and the 89 is also different 951-351-093-00-OEM - I do not know the kit numbers for these.

Get the sunsets kits while they last. I looked close and the turbo kits and the 968 kits are not availble from Paragon anymore and are very different from the na cars even the S cars.. I agree Jason is the bomb but they are not availible anymore. Please show me I am wrong- No worries

Cheers, Mike

Yes, I called paragon when I was rebuilding my calipers last year, I used:

Front Calipers use seals:
Four: ST-41-238-001 Sealing Ring; 38mm $7.95
Four: ST-41-236-001 Sealing Ring; 36mm $8.25

Rear Calipers use seals:
Four: ST-41-230-001 Sealing Ring; 30mm $8.25
Four: ST-41-228-001 Sealing Ring; 28mm $8.25

Word of caution: double check what comes in the packages, the packages had the right part number, but the seals did not match what was comming out of the stock calipers. So I had to call paragon back. The seals have a stripe sequence:

Front Caliper Seals
38mm (Red-White-White-Orange stripes)
and 36mm (White-Blue-Blue-Orange stripes)

Rear
30mm (White-White-White-Red stripes)
28mm (Red stripe)

I would not bother with the Scraper rings, unless they are in really bad shape.

First, I'd recommend disassembling the calipers to see if you need new pistons. If not, the cost is much less.

I rebuilt mine over the winter (didn't need new pistons) and bought seals and scraper rings from Racer's Edge for ~$200. Zeckhausen has them for the same price as well. These were for the TurboS calipers.
