I got the head back from the machine shop today and notices the exhaust sleeves are worn or ground down near the exhaust port. Was this done by the machine or can this happen with normal wear? With the exhaust port sleeves damaged, is the head worthy of track use?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

probably was like that already and only showed (previously covered with carbon) once the machine shop cleaned it.
Can't tell really well from the pics but if the ceramic is cracked and looks like it'll come loose, I wouldn't use it.

If you see bright metal where ceramic should be I would be concerned of recent damage. If it is dull metal it's old and got cleaned off in the tank. As stated above it's hard to say if it was the result of head work or the ceramic was cracked and chipped and carboned over before. The bad thing is if there is any sharp ceramic edge that exhaust gases can lift and the rest is history for the turbo.
