Question Rinsed out your intercooler, lately?

I'm about to do this on my 951. Any tips appreciated, thanks!

there was a good thread about this last month . I think the outcome was use gas to clean then thuroughly rinse. Do a search and I am sure you will find it

I cleaned mine with mineral spirits. The trick I got from an old local racer was to get a pail of super hot water, put the mineral spirits container in there so that it heats up the solvent without being dangerous. Also heat up the IC with a heat gun, especially through the fins. Put the heat gun away, far away. Then pour the warm solvent into the cooler. Only fill it about half way that way you have lots of room to swish the fluid back and forth between the two end tanks. Do this for quite a while. Pour the gunk out. Fill it again with clean solvent an do it again. Should still have gunk in it but far less than the first time. Finish it of with rinsing it out with hot water and detergent, then just hot water.

I heated the intercooler in the oven but used "Simple Green" for cleaning. It's better for the enviroment.

After reading the old thread (doing the smaller alternator fix soon) I noticed the intercooler flush idea and pulled mine this weekend. Had no time for the cleaning routine, so I'll let ya know next week. New catch can on the way too.

does this really make a difference? i suppose it could have a built up film of oil from 20yrs. what about that mod'd one from LR. (no hijack of thread intended)
