Happened again tonight--same parameters: at 60, punch it, boost builds like a rocket thruster, then bang, nothing. I backed off the throttle, everything is normal and boost builds again. Again, I was on boost for like 3 sec. Tomorrow I'll back down the LBE and try again from there. Is the DME reading boost pressure or some other data like knock? Should I be concerned that something else is out of whack and this is just a secondary symptom? All pipes and connections are tight and intact.

You are most likely leaning out and knocking. The DME detects overboost and is trying to save your engine. The stock chip is not designed for elevated boost...
