1st 2nd Gear strengthene Turbo S
I have a question. The Turbo S model has 1st and 2nd gear strengthened because of the added horsepower. If you change your car to a K27-6 turbo and chips on a standard 86' 951. Would the original gears in the tranny handle that extra power?

Didn't know that.
I've seen over 500whp go thru turbo S transmissions with no problem (3L big turbo engines). I don't know if Special Tool used an S gearbox or not for his 600hp runs. I've seen several high HP 86/87/88 cars that have not had gearbox issues.

It's a moot point what special tool used... the dyno pulls would have been in a gear higher than 1st or 2nd. And, if I recall, he used a launch control in the low gears - which would have prevented the gears from seeing full HP.

Good point also that first and second are almost useless when you start modifying these cars.

I'm speculating here, but I bet Porsche knew some owners of the higher-zoot turbos would be tempted to do some power launches...
Kind of like why the new GT2 has a launch control button?

Ran that combo for several years on the 86 trans and at 82,000 miles it still shifted flawlessly.
