Rick the only difference between the two intakes are the amount of banjo fittings. The '87 and '86 intakes had a single banjo fitting on the intake, all Turbo S cars and some '88 non-s cars came with the dual banjo fittings.
Either can be swapped, one will just necessitate the use of more T's in the vacuum lines, but this can be avoided by using longer banjo bolts either way. I would not let the amount of fittings on the intake deter me from buying a 'special' manifold as the one Joe has for sale, as even with the earlier intakes with only one banjo fitting, you can still run 4 seperate vacuum ports (LR sells a special 4 port banjo bolt for this purpose) which should be more than enough.

Great info; thank you. I think I'm going to pass - I've got a shop here locally that can do the honing for quite a bit less than the asking price for the intake. By the time I add in the cost/effort for the banjo bolt changes it just doesn't make sense.
Thanks much,
Rick
