Hey Ben - did you just undo the electrical oil pressure sender and plug this in where that went? It is just so strange that it seems to act up at high revs after hard driving.

I have had an issue with my charging system ever since I got the car. On startup the guage reads low and the lights are dim. I have to rev the car to get the voltage meter to bump up. I've replaced the the alternator with two other used ones, tried two other starters, new voltage regulator, almost new positive and negative battery cables, brand new battery and still acts the same way. I am beginning to wonder if the new voltage regulator I got was any good.

Josh:

Try cleaning the grounds under the fuse panel on the drivers side. It is hard to get your body in there. I took my seat out so i could lay down and not get crippled!

Also clean the ground in the battery box that bolts to the firewall near the HVAC fans.

Yep that's about all there is too it. Remove OPS and thread in the adapter bushing. Since it sounds like you might have some other electrical issues, I would certainly go with a mech. gauge, even if only temporary, to really see what's going on.

Drove home from work on back roads - about a 15 mile ride. Got the oil temp up to 200 degrees or so at the oil pan drain plug - probably didn't ever go over 4k revs. Oil pressure was fine - 4 or 5 bar at speed and no less than 2 bar at idle. Just so strange.....

Is that with a mechanical gauge?

Nobody mentioned it. The torque on the crank bolt should be at 250 ft/bs, not 150.

Doooooh.Maybe that was 156.LOL.I bought a 1/2" 250ft/lb torque wrench along time ago just for that damn bolt.

Don't get me wrong here as I'm not trying to prove you wrong. Just curious if maybe you found something out that we hadn't heard.

P.S. Tim, I need to talk to you about turbo choices for a 3L build.

+1 on the gauges - that's the first thing that came to my mind. Even if you have some oil flow problems, I don't see why your pressure would go down like that.

I also went crazy looking for a phantom overheating problem. The gauge would indicate I was overheating, and I would even pull over for half an hour at times...

Previous to the problem , I had recently changed everything in the cooling system (I did it during the engine rebuild) so I was baffled. After running the car in my shop, and checking the temp of the hoses, nothing went over 140deg, but the gauge was pointed to the red zone.

A new sensor solved the problem.

I see a pattern here! Checking with a mechanical gauge is a must!
