For many of us 574 is _not_ easy to get, I even checked with local loctite authorized distributors and many of them said it would take in excess of 1 week to get it in stock, and when they looked it up in their book 518 was recommended as a replacement since it adheres better and is stronger.

So, initially I took it for convenience, however after reading the sheets on them both, it does appear to be a better sealant.

Locktite 574 is easy to get and not expensive. Why would you not use it?
Have to agree, since the interweb there is not much you can't get in a reasonable amount of time at a fair price. My web search lead me to Fastenal, about 15min from the house, for a reasonable price. Never knew they were there.

Especially considering this is the gurdle and B-shafts! Not a job you want to redo.

Funny you mention that about Fastenal. My good friend is the manager of a local Fastenal store that I didn't even know existed. Either way, I got my bottom end all set up now.

I'm so glad I live only a few minutes from a McMaster Carr warehouse. They have everything (including 574) : )
