15w40 for cold weather? ohh please man, 0w for really cold, 5w for regular winter, 10w if you are rarely nearing 0 mark.

its not your battery - check other electrical issues such as cables, grounds and starter. I have 'cold soaked' my car down to below zero temps to set up the stand alone maps - if your system is in good shape it will crank over and start up a 20/50w engine at 0 degrees.
The most common problem is the internal regulator is keeping the voltage too low. ou should see close to 14v when the engine is running, if not then you battery is not gettgin a full charge.

the alternator is putting out the right voltage. I checked that already. I am checking the battery tomorrow. I am pretty sure it is the battery since it is 6 years old. also, the alternator belt was slipping a little in the rain and the voltage gauge would go down to ten until the belt would catch.
