And now for something completely different...
Practicing my welding..needed something to weld. It is beyond loud in the cabin when open. Probably should try moving it back further so it would resonate less and have more ground clearance...

Very nice! Great Idea! I just installed one of those on my friends VW GTI 2.0T last week, its definately cool. Can you imagine getting pulled over for a loud exhaust, and right before the cop walks up to the car you switch it back to quiet mode? I want to install one in my car so badly... How is the ground clearance?

www.quicktimeperformance.com or www.dmhperformance.com. Have experience with both and prefer the new Dmh low profile units for better ground clearance.

Just a forewarning based on my experience here, but a friend of mine has been running electric cutouts on his GTI for almost 6 years now and he's been through 3 of them so far. About every 18-20 months they start to develop leaks.

They're a butterfly valve - they all leak to an extent. If they claim that they don't leak, they're lying to you. Some leak really bad out of the box, some get worse over time. I've never had one issue with the DMH, but it still leaks just a little bit. Or did I misunderstand your question?
I've seen many broken shafts and failed motors on QTP/QTEC valves.

Spidey -- thanks for the typo tip. Fixed that.
Reno -- I was shamed by your comment and cleaned the floor last night. You should see it now.
FRp -- I got mine from Summitracing.com Ordered on a Monday, and got it Tuesday.
Yes, I've heard they start to leak, but figured for about $200, it might be fun for a while and a good reason to practice welding. The primary motivation for it was so I can do back to back dyno runs with and without the muffler --without ever unstrapping-- to see how much HP really gets bottled up in the muffler....
I installed it in the swapable section of the SFR test pipe, so can pull the whole thing in a a few minutes.

You can get expensive ones that won't leak. I've seen these used are marine applications and are similar to a wastegate with a thick metal plunger that plugs the opening. It's probably a bit more then anyone would be willing to do on a street car.
