The paint on my phone dials is getting pretty tired looking and I want to do something about it. Since my car is white with sunroof delete I have been going for a cup car look ever since I got it, I even have the black cup mirrors. I know it will mean more cleaning of the wheels etc. but I am looking for advice purely from a looks stand point. So lets hear some input on what you guys think about painting them white...... I have attached an inspirational picture.

I painted my phone dials white (track set of wheels), but the paint does not hold up to brake dust well at all. Next round, they are getting powdercoated which will be at least a little more resistant.

+1 -- I'm also running white PDs for track and it looks gross with all the brake dust. I'm also looking into powdercoating.
PS -- from a looks point of view, I like white PDs.

I also have painted all of my phone dials white - I love the way it looks when they're clean. Unfortunately that's not too often as mine need to be sanded some (they've got a real rough finish which makes it impossible to get brake dust off). Also with repeated installation & removal I've scratched them up pretty bad.
Next time I mount tires I'm going to be getting them powdercoated. The paint just doesn't hold up well enough.

I had about 3+ sets of white phone dials for track use. One set was painted by a body/wheel shop (actually it was done by Lindsey's body shop in OKC before Lindsey Racing took off) and that paint held up very well to heat/brake dust. I had another set that I repainted with spray cans nearly every time I had the tires dismounted - anything out of a can will not hold up: wheel paint, epoxy paint, etc... it will all stain from the brake dust and yellow from the heat (see pic of the gray car below). Also still have a set of cup/mag PD's that is powder coated, which hold up fine.
With track wheels, they get really chewed up no matter what type of coating you have. All the mounting and dismounting of very stiff sidewalled tires leaves a lot of marks on the rim, and the center of the wheel will pick up lots of rock chips from flying debris at 130+ mph. White really shows the carnage.
Had some pics on a red car too, but cant find them.

I would powdercoat them, I painted these and they looked great...until I put them on.
Ended up having them powdercoated - its my answer to everything![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I painted mine a few years back by rattlecan (quite badly) but they lasted pretty well. My brake pads produce a serious amount of dust but with regular cleaning it was possible to stop it eating in to the finish too badly. I'm having them professionally painted soon so hopefully they should last even better now.

Colin, as Oddjob said if you track the car a lot be prepared for them to get thrashed, eventually. But if they aren't for that type of usage, I would 'seriously' get them powder-coated white. Those would look as sharp as hell!!
